The Alzar School is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our passionate, committed Board works tirelessly to ensure the Alzar School accomplishes its mission of educating young leaders.
Dr. Kim Tanabe – President
Kim is a physician in Boise, Idaho. She has been with the Alzar School since 2008, serving first as the Board’s Secretary before becoming President in 2010. She has been involved with other outdoor-related nonprofits and has taught kayaking in Idaho and Chile. She earned her medical degree from the University of Washington.
Katie Basham – Vice President
Katie is a PhD candidate in Oncological Sciences at the University of Utah. She has been Vice President of the Alzar School since 2008. Katie is an avid traveler, having completed expeditions to New Zealand, Nepal, and Southeast Asia. She earned her B.S. in Biology from St. Mary’s College in California. Katie loves to ski, cataraft, and trek.
Turin Dickman – Secretary
Turin is a research biologist at the Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico, having earned her B.S. in Biology from Lewis and Clark College in Oregon. Originally from Boise, Idaho, she has traveled extensively internationally and was a competitive ski racer and slalom kayaker. Before being elected to the Board of Directors in 2010, Turin served on the school’s Advisory Committee.
Cailin O’Brien-Feeney – Treasurer
Cailin is pursuing his Master’s degree in Water Resource Management from the University of Idaho, and is also a graduate fellow with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Since 2002 he has worked in the outdoor industry for ROW Adventures, NOLS, Alzar School, the McCall Outdoor Science School and others. When not behind a desk, he gets outside by bike, boat or ski as much as possible.
Katie Hawkins – Liaison to Advisory Committee
Katie has been a volunteer, staff member, member of the Advisory Committee, and now a Board Member for the Alzar School. She has worked in the outdoor industry since 2000. She joined the Board of Directors in 2010. She is currently completing a Physicians Assistant program in Meridian, Idaho. She received her degree in Geology from Middlebury College in Vermont.
